This strategy is great if you want to have a lot of visual context and quickly identify tasks and projects from one or more filter or Smart List via background color.
In this strategy's settings you can connect smart lists, labels or categories to colors.
Tasks and projects that match those filters/Smart Lists will then be shown in that color.
Using Smart Lists
If you already have a Smart List that you'd like to use for marking items with a background color, you can use it by clicking on this filter button:
