If you have a quarterly recurring project and want the title to be "Q2 2024 Review", or a twice-weekly recurring task and want the title to be "Monday stretching" on Monday and "Friday stretching" on Friday, then you can use magic words in your recurring task title.

First, click ☰→Recurring Items to open the recurring item organizer overlay. Then click to add or edit a recurring task. Insert a magic word, like $MONTH into the title, and then when you save, this magic title will be replaced with the appropriate corresponding value for each scheduled instance.

If an instance is scheduled on 2024-05-31, then:

  • $DATE: becomes 2024-05-31, 05/31/2024, or 31.5.2024 depending on your date format

  • $NEXT_DATE: becomes 2024-06-01, 06/01/2024, or 1.6.2024 depending on your date format

  • $YEAR: becomes 2024

  • $NEXT_YEAR: becomes 2025

  • $QUARTER: becomes Q2

  • $NEXT_QUARTER: becomes Q3

  • $MONTH: becomes June

  • $NEXT_MONTH: becomes July

  • $MON: becomes Jun

  • $NEXT_MON: becomes Jul

  • $WEEK: becomes 22 (calendar week / iso calendar week depending on if your week starts on Sunday/Monday)

  • $NEXT_WEEK: becomes 23 (calendar week / iso calendar week depending on if your week starts on Sunday/Monday)

  • $DAY3: becomes Fri

  • $NEXT_DAY3: becomes Sat

  • $DAY2: becomes Fr

  • $NEXT_DAY2: becomes Sa

  • $DAY: becomes F

  • $NEXT_DAY: becomes S
