Marvin Help

I have ADHD

No two people with ADHD are alike, so treat this as a buffet. The big levers are making starting fun and rewarding, shrinking the world to one thing, and making time visible so it stops slipping away. Try a few and keep what clicks.

What can help

Super Focus Mode

Shrink the world to one task. With everything else off-screen, there's nothing to distract you and nothing to feel overwhelmed by.

Accountability Pledge

Real stakes can create the urgency you need to actually start. Commit to a deadline and an amount you'll pay if you miss it. Use it wisely, though, since for some people the added pressure backfires.

Beat the Clock

Turn work into a race. Try to finish before the timer runs out. The urgency and the little win can make starting easier.

Timers

Work in short focused sprints with breaks using the Pomodoro timer.

Duration Estimates

Fight time blindness. Estimating how long things take, and seeing it, helps your day feel concrete instead of a vague blur.

Day Progress Bar

A bar across the top of your day shows how much time is left and how far through your tasks you are. Seeing time pass makes it concrete.

The Task Jar

Pull one task at a time from a jar at random, instead of facing your whole list.

Make "what next" a game. Spin the wheel and let chance pick your task. The novelty gets you past boredom and indecision.

Ideas to try

Make starting a game. Pick a task with a duration estimate and start Beat the Clock, or spin the Spinning Wheel to pick for you. A bit of novelty and urgency can make starting easier.

Make time visible. Add duration estimates when you plan your day and turn on the Day Progress Bar. With your work hours set, it shows a mark for how far through your day you are, so you can see time passing.

Give yourself something to look forward to. Attach a reward to a task you're dreading, like a coffee out or an episode of a show. You earn it when you finish.

Shrink the world. When everything feels like too much, press F for Super Focus Mode or J for The Task Jar, so you're only ever looking at one task.

How to turn on a feature

  1. Open the main menu and click Features, or press S.

  2. Search for the feature by name and turn it on.

  3. Choose where you want to reach it in the Access dialog that opens.

You don't have to try everything at once. Pick the one that sounds most like you, use it for a few days, and see how it feels.
